The Fakey Trade Setup is being popularized by Nial Fuller, an Australian professional forex trader over at www.learntotradethemarket.com While we are trading a contrarian setup we still want to trade the forex fakey in the direction of the dominant trend. Essentially we wait for a false break to occur and then trade back in the direction of the existing trend. The reason the fakey is contrarian is because you are basically doing the opposite of what most other traders are doing. Inside Bar + false breakout = Fakey pattern. There is also Pin Bar + false breakout = Fakey pattern, but in this case we have a fakey pattern formed by Inside bar + false breakout. The Fakey pattern start when we have a Inside Bar that initially breaks out of Inside Pattern but then reverse creating a false breakout of the price action. The Fakey pattern always starts with an inside bar pattern. When price initially breaks out from the inside bar pattern but then quickly reverses, creating a false-break, and closes back within the range of the mother bar or inside bar, we have a fakey pattern. So, think of it like this: Inside Bar + False-Breakout = Fakey pattern.
